Typical Sunflower Oil Production Process

1. Seed Cleaning and Dehulling

Quality starts with the raw material. Cleaning removes stones, dust, and broken seeds that could affect the pressing process. Dehulling is especially critical for sunflower seeds, as it reduces wax content in the oil and improves refining efficiency.

2. Crushing and Conditioning

Once cleaned and dehulled, seeds are crushed into smaller particles and conditioned with heat and moisture. This step loosens up the oil, making the pressing stage more effective.

3. Mechanical Pressing or Pre-Pressing

For clients focusing on cold-pressed oil, a direct mechanical press is used. For larger scale operations, seeds are typically pre-pressed and the residual cake is sent for solvent extraction to recover additional oil.

4. Oil Filtration

Right after pressing, the crude sunflower oil undergoes filtration to remove fine solids. Early-stage filtration helps reduce the load on refining equipment downstream.

5. Refining Process

Refining is where the magic happens. Neutralization removes free fatty acids, degumming clears out phospholipids, bleaching lightens the oil’s color, and deodorization ensures a neutral flavor. The result? Clear, stable sunflower oil that's ready for bottling.

6. Final Storage and Packaging
